Statement / Bio/ Contact

Alice Gale-Feeny situates herself within the discipline of sculpture, utilizing the camera lens and the act of writing as a form of analysis between surface frontage and the inside workings of a scene. Focused on the notion of costume and qualities of fabric detailing on clothing and cars, what we wear and the objects we house ourselves in, is a key source of research. Notions of visibility, masking and blending of form is discussed. A relentless writing process is used to dissect the semiotic codes within colour palettes and vocabularies found in commercial advertisements. Parallels are drawn between these concerns and the works physical manifestations as printed image, video and clothing assemblage.  Merging the human form and the anthropomorphic potential in objects, the practice finds its overarching language.

Alice Gale-Feeny (b. Brighton) graduated in Fine Art at Nottingham Trent University in 2012. She recently participated in an educative initiative, The Masterclass at The Zabludowicz Collection, led by Doug Fishbone and POWOWOW, an artist talk and exhibition curated by Candice Jacobs at One Thoresby Street, Nottingham. Other recent exhibitions include World Event Young Artists in Maribor and Bonington Gallery, Nottingham. Her latest performances made in collaboration with Katherine Fishman appeared at Hatch: Hazard Festival in Manchester. Alice has recently contributed to Nottingham Visual Arts and An Ordinary Press Publication for the exhibition In the Presence of Multiple Possibilities and appeared within Jennie Syson’s ‘30 Under 30’.
Alice has a studio at One Thoresby Street and lives and works in Nottingham.
